I am the 4th great grandson of the founder of your church - Henry Spear. He became a Baptist preacher in 1793 at Enon Baptist Church in Speers PA. I am interested in the Kikendall's who were some of the first members of your church. Do you have all the early 1800 records? I believe there is a possibility that Henry Kikendall was Henry Spear's nephew and I like to track down family members. Henry Spear is more commonly Rev. Henry Speers's Jr. He is buried in Howe Cemetery near Speers/Charleroi, PA. I have JPG photos of his tombstone. I have family connections to many interesting people - Obama, John Wayne 1st wife, Harry Reasoner the newscaster, Noah Speer Wyle the actor, Gen. William T. Sherman, politician James G. Blaine, Whiskey brewer Jacob Spears and some interesting neighbors - Presidents Abe Lincoln and Ronald Reagan but not Britney.

Henry's sister Elizabeth Spears had married a Kuykendall/Cuykendall/Keighendall in Hampshire Co WV / VA in the 1760's and had several children. Rev Henry Speers Jr's dad's will of 1773 only states that a portion of his estate was to go to the children of Elizabeth Keighendall (who had died before 1773). No names were given for the children or her husband. Rev. Henry and Elizabeth Speer/Spears/Speers' sister Catherine married Benjamin Frye who was involved with Benjamin Kuykendall a VA judge who presided at the VA Courthouse on Peters Creek near present day Clairton about 1775. This is a few miles north of Speers and Belle Vernon, PA on the Monongahela. Lower Belle Vernon was founded by their sibling Noah Speer/Speers. North Belle Vernon is founded by Noah's son Louis M. Speer. Speers was settled by Rev. Henry Speers. The Kuykendall's spell their last name several ways - Kuykendall, Cuykendall, Kirkendall, and now I find out Kikendall. The Speers spelled their last name 3 ways in Belle Vernon, PA - Speer, Speers and Spears. The fourth way came up in Pittsburgh in the 1800's - Spear. My cousin Mike Speers and I do our family tree. Henry Speer/Spears Sr was the first registered landowner in Westmoreland County in 1769.

Any help with Kikendall info in your early church would be appreciated from your church Historian. Are your records stored in the Primitive Baptist Church Archives in Rochester NY?

I just surfed into your church site from the Southern San Joaquin Valley in California. It is good to see that God is blessing your ministry. If you would like to check out my website you may do so at kjvoutlines.com [Golden State Outlines]

I have many free alliterated sermon outlines and 24 books of the Bible outlined. God bless you and your work for Him.

Dear friends. Please pray for our nine-year-old ministry (started in 2001) -- www.tjlit.org (Testifying Jesus’ Love in Truth).
We make free resumes, teach free English weekly, and do free translations/interpretations in 17 languages to any church or organization that asks us to. We also give out 3000 tracts each week, and we get people who are abused, have mental illness and other problems into churches and places where they can receive help, and get kids into free dentists.
We love the Lord, and love the ministry he has blessed us with. We are deeply committed to fighting racism and poverty.
Please send us your prayers (Email: reachus@tjlit.org.), and pass our site to friends, missionaries and family, as there are many who are lonely; and, we are thrilled when Christians connect. As the world becomes more hostile towards Christians; it is essential that we connect.
At the moment we are trying to set up a pen pal club so people from all over can write to others and develop friendships.
Nobody should be lonely. If you read this and are lonely, please contact us and we will do our best to get you into a good church wherever you are in the world.
Please also click on and read the Bible verse of the day, and say a prayer for us.
Is there anyway we can help you? Please contact us.
Praise God, contact us if you are lonely, and God bless you.

To our American friends: Please read article 51 on our site “Things I love about America.”
PS. Sorry to the person whose guestbook we have just signed. If we have taken up a lot of space and not commented, again, sorry. The fact that we have left a message is proof, in our opinion, that you are good. God bless you. Ian.

Providence Baptist was a significant part of my family's life during the 1800's; at one time there were 6 Hazens serving as elders in the church. I am putting together a family history of the Hazen family, and would like very much to include Providence Baptist Church in it. Could anyone furnish me a good photo of the sanctuary, perhaps both the old building if one exists as well as today's building? Thank you, and God Bless!
